The Urban League of Greater New Orleans recently announced a new series of workshops for contractors through its Contractors Resource Center, a program of Urban League’s Women’s Business Resource Center.
The series of workshops, called the Contractors’ Capacity Building Series, is designed to give local contractors hands-on training with practical industry tools. Knowledge of these tools can help contractors compete for jobs and make internal processes more efficient. Even though the contractors program is housed in the Women’s Business Resource Center, it is open to everyone.
All workshops are take place at the Urban League’s Contractors Resource Center (CRC) at 4640 South Carrollton Ave, Suite 250 in New Orleans. There a couple notable workshop installments scheduled for the remainder of this month:
Construction Bid Prep
This class will teach contractors what it takes to submit an accurate bid proposal that significantly increases your bottom line. Attendees will learn how to effectively utilize the following project components in the bidding process: profit margins, overhead, labor burden, and more.
W-I-P (Work-In-Progress) Accounting For Contractors
The volume of work done by a contractor under terms of a contract to date is called work-in-progress. Keeping accurate records can help contractors understand the time and budget spent on a project and track inefficiencies within a project. This workshop is limited to contactors with current contracts. Attendees must bring current contracts that show the contract price, total estimated cost, billed-to-date, and actual cost-to-date.
The Contractors Resource Center is a program of Urban League’s Women’s Business Resource Center, although the program is not exclusively for women. The Center incorporates a computer lab (terminals outfitted with Planswift, a leading estimating software and others); a carious contractor-specific training events; a state-of-the-art printer/plotter; individualized business counseling; assistance with certifications, access to capital, and much more to benefit its membership.
